They could not ask for much more. This deal has the Blazers landing two quality players under the age of 25 in addition to three first-round picks and a swap. If they wanted to rebuild, they’d be hard-pressed to find a better starter’s package.
Ziare Williams ought to be particularly intriguing here. He struggled to find heavy minutes in his rookie campaign with the contending Grizzlies, but he flashed tremendous upside when he did. He’s the type of long, athletic wing scorer that has come to dominate the NBA.
Of course, De’Anthony Melton is no mere throw-in either. The 24-year-old looks like he’ll be a functional scoring guard in this league for a decade or more. He may not have Williams’ star upside, but he’s not far off either.
