Washington Wizards Receive: G/F Tim Hardaway Jr., F Josh Green, 2025 First-Round Pick (DAL)

Dallas Mavericks Receive: F Pascal Siakam, G Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
With this deal, the Toronto Raptors decide that they like their roster construction, and just wish the players within it were on the same timeline.
After all, Pascal Siakam is 28. Meanwhile, Scottie Barnes is 20. The Raptors would be interested in this trade if they felt that they weren’t going to be able to build a contender before Siakam aged out of his prime.
That is a possibility. The Raptors were a pleasant surprise in 2021-22, but they weren’t a serious threat to the title. This team could be a few years away from reaching that status. If they took rebuilding measures this summer, that would be justified.
Acquiring the 24-year-old Hachimura would qualify. He’s got the potential to be a late-blooming star in this league. Of course, the first-round pick and two swaps that the Raptors land in this deal don’t hurt either.

On the other hand, losing Siakam will: in the short term, at least. In the long run, any one of these deals could end up benefiting the Raptors.
