Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Miami Heat

First up, we’ll take a look at this deal for the Miami Heat. Trading Tyler Herro would be a move that most fans would hate to see happen. However, Pat Riley and company do not think about the emotional side of a deal if the move ends up improving them on the court.

In this move, the Heat would be adding an elite defensive presence in Myles Turner. He has long been viewed as one of, if not the best rim protectors in the NBA. Turner can also stretch out and knock down the three-ball and would fit very well alongside Bam Adebayo.

During the 2021-22 NBA season with the Pacers, Myles Turner ended up averaging 12.9 points per game to go along with 7.1 rebounds and 2.8 blocks. He shot 50.9 percent from the floor overall and knocked down 33.3 percent of his three-point attempts.

Should the Heat end up trading Herro, they would need to find a piece to replace his production off the bench on the wing. Chris Duarte is exactly that kind of piece. As a rookie in Indiana, Duarte scored 13.1 points per game and also chipped in 4.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.0 steals.

Finally, the Heat would also be getting the No. 6 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. With that selection, Miami could add another young wing like Bennedict Mathurin or Johnny Davis, or they could add front-court depth. The options are unlimited for them with that pick.

Granted, the return may not be enough for the Heat to pull the trigger on moving Herro. But, it’s extremely close and intriguing enough to think about.
