Minnesota Timberwolves Receive: C Steven Adams, F Brandon Clarke
Memphis Grizzlies Receive: G D’Angelo Russell
Some NBA players don’t have a clear place in the league. They’re definitively good enough to be here, but nobody can seem to pinpoint in exactly what capacity.
Steven Adams fits that description. He feels, somehow, too good to be a reserve, and too limited to start. If he did land on the Minnesota Timberwolves, that obviously wouldn’t be an option. He’d be playing behind Karl-Anthony Towns.
Realistically, this deal isn’t about Adams for the Wolves anyway. It’s about Clarke. He’s a versatile combo big who provides hustle, defense, and a degree of floor spacing. He’ll be able to play alongside Towns and back him up.
Some might argue that this is insufficient value for D’Angelo Russell. We might advise them to take a look at his postseason stats this year and reconsider. Russell is a talented floor general, but he’s prone to bouts of inefficiency and a poor defender.

Teams will be interested, but they may not break the bank. Nonetheless, this next deal may satisfy those people more thoroughly.
