Toronto Raptors Receive: C/F Kevin Love, 2022 First-Round Pick (No. 14 – CLE), 2024 First-Round Pick (CLE), 2026 First-Round Pick (CLE), 2028 First-Round Pick (CLE)
Cleveland Cavaliers Receive: F/C Pascal Siakam
This is the draft pick special. If the Toronto Raptors really want to divert their focus toward the future, this could be the move for them.
They’re swapping Siakam for four first-round picks and an expiring contract. Kevin Love has had a storied career, and he’s still a valuable rotation player. With that said, he no longer retains enough value to be the centerpiece in a Pascal Siakam trade.
This one isn’t mostly about the picks for the Raptors: it’s all about the picks. Following this deal, they’ll have the flexibility to shape their roster around Barnes. It’ll hurt them badly in the short term, but it might be a blessing down the road.
This is not to say we’re predicting such a course of action. If anything, the Raptors seem to value continuity: they’ll probably continue on with Siakam in 2022-23.
