Indiana Pacers Receive: G Evan Fournier, G Derrick Rose, F Cam Reddish, 2023 First-Round Pick (DAL)
New York Knicks Receive: G Malcolm Brogdon, G Buddy Hield
Who says you can’t have your cake and eat it too?
This deal finds the Pacers grabbing both Cam Reddish and a first-round pick from the Knicks. For a rebuilding club, that’s an excellent asset base.
Meanwhile, it has the Knicks upgrading both of their backcourt spots. With the acquisition of both Brogdon and Hield, the Knicks may be able to return to the postseason in 2022-23. If short-term improvement is their goal, they ought to achieve it with this trade.
On the other hand, this deal has the Pacers taking a longer view. It also allows them to hand the keys more distinctly to Tyrese Haliburton in 2022-23. If he develops as many expect him to, that’ll be a wise decision.
