Why The Los Angeles Lakers Do The Deal

Well, we kind of already answered our own question. The Los Angeles Lakers do this deal because they’re ready to sell low on Anthony Davis.

In fairness, it would be a justifiable decision. Big men with a laundry list of health problems don’t have a great track record of returning to form. Davis’ prime could already be over.

Furthermore, the Lakers get a solid return here. Christian Wood, for all of his defensive flaws, is a much more reliable floor spacer than Davis has ever been. He’ll maximize Russell Westbrook in a way the man he’ll be replacing never could.

Meanwhile, Eric Gordon is an elite floor spacer who can create his own looks by attacking closeouts when need be. Jae’Sean Tate is a versatile defender who can put the ball on the floor and get to the basket when his number is called. Finally, the Lakers replenish their bare draft cupboard to an extent with this deal as well.

It’s a long shot. The Lakers are probably better off crossing their fingers for a return to good health on Davis’ part. With that said, if they do decide to move on from The Brow, the Rockets have plenty of assets they could send them in return.
