Why The San Antonio Spurs Do The Deal
The San Antonio Spurs will be interested in this deal if we assume that they’re not approaching team building from a traditional place.
Many would accuse this team of being on the “mediocrity treadmill”. The argument would hold that the Spurs need to either bottom out for a top pick or swing a trade for a superstar. What if the Spurs see a third way?
After all, there is plenty of reason for optimism around this squad. Dejounte Murray looks the part of a superstar. Keldon Johnson may not be far behind. Devin Vassell has great upside, and Jakob Poeltl is already a starting-caliber big man.
The Spurs could look at their roster and determine that what they really need is to continue developing chemistry while gradually adding quality pieces. If that’s how they feel, PJ Washington is a perfect fit. Like we said, realistically, he’s a perfect fit with any group.
