Here’s the secret about this Indiana Pacers rebuild: it may not be a rebuild at all.

Team President Kevin Pritchard would have you believe it wasn’t. He says his team refuses to go undergo a long-term teardown. If that’s true, this trade allows them to split the difference. They’re getting a first-rounder, a 24-year-old in Melton, and a useful win-now contributor in Brooks.

Granted, the pick is top 5 protected. That’s a little tax they’re paying for landing Brooks. If they’re truly not interested in a total rebuild, it’s a worthy price. Brooks is a hard-nosed 3-and-D wing who fills a position of immediate need for the Pacers.

He’s a player the Grizzlies will miss. Acquiring Turner is worth it. As we already outlined, his fit alongside Jackson Jr. is too tantalizing to pass up.
