It was highly theorized that the Dallas Mavericks trade that sent former NBA All-Star Kristaps Porzingis to the Washington Wizards in return for Spencer Dinwiddie and Davis Bertans wasn’t so much about the players that Dallas was acquiring in exchange but more so about who they were subtracting.
Removing the Zinger from the Mavericks’ lineups and gameplans has had an incredible effect on Luka Doncic, Jalen Brunson, and as a result, Dallas as a whole.
So far, Bertans and Dinwiddie have been wildly inconsistent with the Mavericks, the latter especially with 30-point performances one night followed by a single-digit scoring outing.
Dinwiddie’s strengths and weaknesses are simply too redundant with Luka and Brunson’s for him to be a major part of the Mavericks’ future. He’s also far too expensive at $18 million next year to be a sixth man, the role he’s currently featured in for Dallas.
