3. Select Big 10 Star
The 2022 NBA Draft has a top-three forming according to most analysts that the Sacramento Kings are just going to miss out on, as they landed the No. 4 overall pick. However, they will still be able to land a very good player with that selection.
Jaden Ivey is the player that many believe to be atop the next tier in the rankings. The Purdue Boilermaker, according to some insiders, may be higher on draft boards that the teams are making than people who are making mock drafts.
He has star potential based on the production that he put on tape with the Boilermakers. While he isn’t a perfect fit for Sacramento, as they already have solid depth in the backcourt with De’Aaron Fox, Davion Mitchell, and the potential return of Donte DiVincenzo, it is hard to pass on players with star potential.
The Kings have struggled when put in this situation previously. They passed on Luka Doncic to select Marvin Bagley III to address a need and it turned out poorly for them. That isn’t something they want a repeat of, so if they think Ivey can turn into a star, they will select him and worry about fit later.

If the Kings do not want to add another guard to the mix, someone such as Keegan Murray out of Iowa could intrigue them. Murray is a little older than the other top prospects in this year’s draft class, but that is something that could endear him to Sacramento.
They are looking to snap that playoff drought as soon as possible. Bringing in an experienced, more developed player could help make that happen sooner. Murray has multi-positional versatility on defense and is a bonafide scorer from all over the court. He could be a perfect fit for the Sacramento Kings.
