Making the Case: New York Knicks

If there’s an opportunity for the New York Knicks to acquire a dynamic talent like Donovan Mitchell, the New York Knicks should look to capitalize.

The opportunity to acquire a star like Mitchell would be all the more intriguing if they do not have to part with either Julius Randle or RJ Barrett to execute a trade. Mitchell has become one of the more dynamic guards in the NBA and it’s a challenge to land such a player.

With a trio of Mitchell, Barrett, and Randle, the Knicks would then have to find the necessary talents to complement them. It would be challenging to do so right away considering how many moving parts would be involved in the trade.

Mitchell Robinson is set to be a restricted free agent this offseason, but they may need to consider finding a shooting threat at the five if possible. He’s used to playing in a highly spaced-out half-court offense and that wouldn’t be the case with Randle and Robinson.

The Knicks still would have Alec Burks, Derrick Rose, and Kemba Walker at the point guard position to utilize as stopgap options or trade chips. There would be a need to be upgrades made on the wing when considering how depleted their depth chart would be after a trade.
