Memphis Grizzlies Receive: G Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
The Charlotte Hornets need a center. In this deal, they decide they need one badly enough to part with a first-round pick in exchange for Steven Adams.
He’s a perfect fit for this squad. Adams isn’t a flashy player, but he’s one of the league’s hardest workers. He’d provide the Hornets with the rim protection, screen-setting and rebounding they badly needed in 2021-22.
Meanwhile, the Thunder absorb Hayward’s contract for the sake of an extra first-round pick here. We have no doubt that they’ll consider it a worthy tradeoff. After adding five more to their already immense collection, the NBA Draft might as well be permanently held in Oklahoma City until further notice.
This trade works. At the same time, the Hornets will be in hot pursuit of a big man this summer. If they acquire one by a different means, this entire deal falls apart.
