This deal does feel more in line with how the Pacers tend to operate as a franchise.

Historically, they’re not known for upside swing acquisitions like Boston Jr. and a pick in the distant future. Targetting a young player with a track record of NBA success like Washington is more consistent with their typical methodology.

Involving the Hornets allows them to stay consistent. It also gets the Hornets the starting big man they’ll need to acquire this summer. Zubac has been a key part of the Clippers’ rotation over the last several seasons.

Parting with him stings, but the acquisition of Turner softens the blow. He’s a moderately better rim protector who, in contrast to Zubac, spaces the floor.

If the Clippers are acquiring him this year, they won’t have the space to afford Zubac the minutes he deserves anyway. The Hornets, on the other hand, absolutely will.
