1. Deandre Ayton
One position on the team that the Detroit Pistons reportedly want to upgrade is the center spot. They should aggressively pursue their targets, as they have the money to offer a max deal should they see fit.
The No. 1 target for them should be Deandre Ayton of the Phoenix Suns. Ayton was seeking a max rookie extension, but Suns ownership did not believe that he was worth one, so he is hitting restricted free agency this summer.
Detroit should make a big offer to him and present him with a max offer sheet, or at least something close. Phoenix has given no indication they are willing to go that high on a contract, so if the Pistons want Deandre Ayton, that could get the job done.
Ayton would be a huge addition to the Suns as he would be another long-term foundational piece for the roster. Depending on who they select in this year’s draft, Detroit could have their Big 3 of the future if Ayton, Cade Cunningham and this year’s selection.

On the court, Deandre Ayton is a great fit. On offense, he can be deadly in pick-and-roll situations because opponents have to respect him out to the mid-range. If he continues expanding and starts making 3-pointers consistently, he will be even more dangerous.
Defensively, he has already shown with the Suns that he is a more than capable anchor. He can play in multiple schemes with his athleticism and IQ, making him a great two-way player that is still young enough to take his game to another level.
