They find themselves in an odd position. On the one hand, they’ve had a wildly successful two seasons. After reaching the NBA Finals in 2020-21, they won an NBA-best 64 games in 2021-22.
On the other hand, they suffered a disappointing defeat at the hands of the Dallas Mavericks in the second round of the playoffs. Moreover, recent number one pick Deandre Ayton played a mere 17 minutes in the deciding game 7. Now, it looks like he may be due to depart Phoenix.
Meanwhile, much of what we’ve said about the Knicks could be said about the Suns. Just dial the recent success aspect back about a dozen notches.
