How This Trade Impacts Golden State Warriors
The Golden State Warriors are going to have to make some decisions this offseason when it comes to their finances. While they would love to keep everyone, especially if they win the NBA Championship, that likely isn’t a feasible path for them to take.
Unless everyone is willing to take veteran’s minimum deals, which is extremely unlikely, they are going to lose some of their rotation this offseason. Luckily for them, they have the assets to swing a trade to replace whatever they may lose.
Andrew Wiggins’ contract can be used to help facilitate a deal and in this scenario, that is exactly what they do. They break Wiggins’ deal up into two players that can step right into the rotation and produce right away in Christian Wood and Eric Gordon.
Wood can slide into the starting center spot whether or not Looney re-signs or not. He would provide a massive upgrade offensively, as Wood is a legitimate 20+ points per game scorer from the center spot with range out to the 3-point line. Having him as a third or fourth option offensively will make them very difficult to slow down.

Defensively, he is no slouch. He is a great rebounder and provides some rim protection as well. Gordon won’t hurt them on either end of the court. While not as versatile defensively as Wiggins, he can provide some scoring, playmaking and solid defense on the second unit or starting five.
Wiggins’ departure would likely open up some playing time for Jonathan Kuminga, the athletically gifted albeit raw, wing prospect.
