Houston Rockets Receive: G/F Duncan Robinson, 2023 First-Round Pick (MIA)
Miami Heat Receive: C Christian Wood
The Houston Rockets should probably trade Christian Wood this summer. At 26, he’s just a bit off their timeline. Alperen Sengun flashed star potential in his rookie year, and they’re likely to add one of Paolo Banchero, Jabari Smith Jr., or Chet Holmgren in the 2022 draft.
That sounds like a frontcourt rotation that’ll be too crowded for Wood. Some contending team is likely to be willing to take a swing on a combo big who shoots 39% from long range. Could the Miami Heat be that rebuilding team?
He would be a good fit for this roster. While Christian Wood is known for his defensive shortcomings, they’d be masked by Bam Adebayo. Additionally, his strong floor-spacing would offset Bam’s lack thereof.
As for the Rockets, they’re absorbing Robinson’s bad contract for the sake of a first-round pick. It’s hard to say whether it’ll be worth the trade-off. They’d like to maintain cap space for next summer when John Wall and Eric Gordon come off the books.

On the other hand, they could decide it’s worth their time. The Houston Rockets are in talent acquisition mode. A first-round pick is highly valuable to a team in their position. Arguably, too valuable to pass up on in this deal.
