In this deal, both the Houston Rockets and Miami Heat give up a little more in order to get a little more back.

P.J. Washington is a perfect addition to this Rockets team. They need defensive players, badly. Washington is a versatile combo big who can guard 3 through 5. He also replicates much of the floor spacing they’re losing in Wood.

Meanwhile, Jae’Sean Tate may be the embodiment of Heat Culture. The undrafted, soon-to-be third-year player gutted it out in the NBL before signing with the Rockets at 25. His brand of hard-nosed defense will be welcomed in South Beach.

Finally, the Hornets land a much-needed center. Washington for Yurteven, in a vacuum, isn’t good value for them. With that said, Washington is a very similar player to the superior Miles Bridges. With this deal, the Hornets fill a position of need while shedding a player at a position of excess.
