Houston Rockets Receive: G/F Duncan Robinson, 2023 First-Round Pick (MIA)
Miami Heat Receive: C Christian Wood
This trade asks two questions. First, it asks how badly the Houston Rockets want first-round picks. Second, it asks how little the Miami Head value them.
After all, the Rockets probably don’t value Robinson much in this exchange. He was virtually unplayable throughout the 2021-22 playoffs due to his porous defense. This deal is effectively Wood for a first-rounder from the Rockets’ point of view.
As for the Heat, they already have their 2025 first-round pick sent out. By repurposing their ’23 selection, they’re leaving themselves low on draft capital. Are they confident that Christian Wood is enough to get them back into the NBA Finals?
He might be. They were just a Game 7 away from punching a ticket this season. Wood would team up with Bam Adebayo to make for a very interesting frontcourt. It might be enough to win this team just one more playoff series.

On the other hand, both sides could feel entitled to more here. The Rockets are taking on a bad contract, while the Heat are giving up a first-round pick. Perhaps adding a third team into the mix could satisfy both sides.
