Sacramento Kings Receive: F Julius Randle, 2022 First-Round Pick (No. 11 – NYK)
New York Knicks Receive: C Richaun Holmes, F Maurice Harkless, G/F Justin Holiday, 2022 First-Round Pick (No. 4 – SAC)
Whether the Sacramento Kings would be interested in this trade would depend on whether they think they can make the playoffs with a Domanta Sabonis / Julius Randle frontcourt.
There are reasons to believe they couldn’t. Neither is a stout defender. The combined lateral mobility and wingspan of this duo are uninspiring, to put it politely. They’re also both generally most effective with the ball in their hands.
On the flip side, pure talent travels far. There would be a lot of pure talent in this duo. Add De’Aaron Fox into the mix, and the Sacramento Kings may be able to overwhelm opponents regularly with pure point-producing power.
Meanwhile, the Knicks make out like bandits in this exchange. They get off of Randle’s arguably regrettable contract and move up in the draft in one fell swoop. They’re capitalizing on Sacramento’s desperateness to make the postseason.
