Why The Dallas Mavericks Do The Deal
The Dallas Mavericks’ logic here is equally simple: they’re ready to play for the NBA title now with Luka Docnic. Why would they hold onto a first-round pick?
Bojan Bogdanovic may not be a superstar, but this team doesn’t necessarily need one. They just made a trip to the Western Conference Finals. Objectively speaking, they are close.
He’s also not the only missing piece on this team. Arguably, they need a rim protector. They’ll also need to either retain Jalen Brunson or sign and trade him in pursuit of a bigger fish. More broadly, they need a viable second opinion behind Luka Doncic.
Bogdanovic is closer to a third man. That has value too. He’ll diversify this Mavericks offense and provide them with another lethal off-ball threat to space the floor when Luka is attacking the defense.

That might be enough to earn this team a trip to the NBA Finals. After all, they’re not far off the mark as it is.
