If Zach LaVine does remain in Chicago, it will surely be because the Bulls promise him they’ll find a way to improve. Swapping Nikola Vucevic for Anthony Davis on the interior has the potential to do that.
For all of his offensive gifts, Vooch is not much of a rim protector. When he’s healthy, Davis is one of the best in the league. This trade could help the Bulls shore up one of the league’s worst defenses.
Of course, a straight Vucevic-for-Davis swap doesn’t benefit the Los Angeles Lakers. The Bulls are including Ball for that reason. On the other hand, Vooch does profile as a better fit alongside Russell Westbrook. He’s a more reliable floor spacer than Davis.
On the other hand, the acquisition of Ball would allow the Lakers to deal Westbrook elsewhere. If they’re looking for a total roster makeover this summer, this deal might be a good starting point.
