Washington Wizards Receive: G D’Angelo Russell
Minnesota Timberwolves Receive: F Kyle Kuzma, G Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
Here’s a simple deal that figures to make both teams involved stronger.
The Washington Wizards have basically needed a point guard since Russell Westbrook’s departure (if not John Wall’s). Meanwhile, they’ve got plenty of wing/forwards between Deni Avdija, Rui Hachimura, and Corey Kispert. This deal leaves them with better floor balance.
It could also make them interesting next season. A core group of Bradley Beal, Kristaps Porzingis, and Russell may not play for the Larry O’Brien Trophy, but they should make it to the playoffs. If things click, they could even win a series.
Meanwhile, the Wolves get more balanced here too. Adding a forward who can space the floor could do wonders for the duo of Towns and Anthony Edwards. With Kuzma, Patrick Beverley, and Malik Beasley settling into supporting roles, this deal makes them more dangerous in 2022-23 as well.

On the other hand, maybe the Wolves don’t want to part with Russell. He’s a flawed player who struggled in the 2021-22 playoffs. He’s still a talented playmaker and scorer. If they’d prefer to hold onto him, there may be another more fitting deal that lands Kuzma in Minnesota.
