With this trade, the Washington Wizards still get their point guard. He just happens to be a significantly different one.

Patrick Beverley is not nearly as gifted an offensive player as D’Angelo Russell. On the other hand, he’s one of the best point of attack defenders in the entire NBA. By contrast, Russell struggles in that area.

The 19th pick in the 2022 NBA Draft is also a valuable asset for the Wizards. If Bradley Beal is, as rumored, a flight risk, adding a young player through the draft will be beneficial if this team is rebuilding. If he isn’t, they could land themselves a trade chip for later.

It will be interesting to see where these teams land in 2022-23. The Minnesota Timberwolves could be on the cusp of greatness. So could the Wizards, although they appear equally as close to the verge of collapse.
