New York Knicks Receive: G Malcolm Brogdon
Indiana Pacers Receive: F Julius Randle
This trade is all about roster construction for both sides.
The Indiana Pacers have outgrown Malcolm Brogdon. It happened the moment they traded for Tyrese Haliburton at this year’s trade deadline. They are remarkably similar players, but Haliburton is much younger, and frankly, probably already better.
None of which is to say Brogdon isn’t a good NBA player. He’s excellent. The point guard needy New York Knicks would be lucky to welcome him into the fold.
This player-for-player swap lands both teams a quality player at a position of need. It’s a clean and sensible deal that benefits both parties.

On the other hand, the Knicks might have more interest in some other players on the Pacers’ roster. If they do, they may still be able to acquire them. It’ll just cost them a little extra.
