Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal
The Brooklyn Nets do this deal for stability, and nothing else.
Questions about Irving’s availability may only be overshadowed by questions about Simmons’. Having two players who, while exceedingly talented, are never safe bets to actually play is problematic.
With this trade, the Nets receive useful veterans who will suit up if they’re physically able. Obviously, Rose and Fournier hold the most value here. Kemba Walker’s play has been declining for seasons.
At the same time, who knows? He could enjoy a late-career renaissance in Brooklyn. Otherwise, Rose has developed into a reliable floor-spacing point guard who doubles as a secondary playmaker. Evan Fournier may be a touch overpaid, but he’s still a bucket.

From a pure talent perspective, it’s hard to say this deal makes the Nets better. Still, it makes them deeper and more well-rounded, and most importantly, it gives them availability.
