Clint Capela
Clint Capela is one of the most reliable rim running / rim-protecting big men in the NBA. Still, there’s a new kid on the block in Atlanta. Could Onkeya Onkongwu edge Capela out of town?
A look at their side-by-side per 100 possession numbers is interesting. On that basis, Capela averaged 19.7 points, 21.1 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks. Meanwhile, Onkongwu averaged 19.4 points, 14.0 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks.
Sure, Capela’s stats are a little more impressive, if for no reason other than the gulf separating his rebounds per game. Still, when you consider that he’s 27, while his counterpart is 21, you can see why Atlanta would lean towards moving the veteran.
After all, they’re remarkably similar players. Meanwhile, teams are not generally inclined to double down on quality big men who don’t stretch the floor in 2022. Realistically, there’s not enough room in town for the both of them.
