Utah Jazz Receive: F Danilo Gallinari, F De’Andre Hunter, 2023 First-Round Pick (ATL), 2025 First-Round Pick (ATL), 2027 First-Round Pick (ATL)
Atlanta Hawks Receive: G Donovan Mitchell
With this deal, the Utah Jazz receive a package most fans expect a rebuilding team to covet. They’re getting an intriguing young player in addition to a number of first-round picks.
Your preference between these two packages probably depends on your view of Hunter. Advanced metrics have not painted him as the strong perimeter defender he was expected to be when the Atlanta Hawks took him with the 4th pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.
On the other hand, Trae Young’s weakness in that area could be fudging those numbers. It’s harder to make an impact with such a noted sieve on the floor for most of every game. In a more credible defensive system, Hunter could thrive.
If not, who cares? The Jazz are bottoming out anyway. The real appeal for them here are the three first-round picks. If Mitchell and Young take some time to gel, that 2023 selection could be juicier than expected.

If they don’t, the Jazz will survive. In all likelihood, their record will be poor enough to secure their next franchise player in the 2023 draft anyway.
