New York Knicks Receive: G Grayson Allen, G/F Pat Connaughton
Milwaukee Bucks Receive: G Derrick Rose
And now, for something completely different.
The Milwaukee Bucks may be in need of an energetic, versatile wing defender. A backup point guard wouldn’t hurt either. George Hill is a passable option, but he may be aging out of being a quality one. Derrick Rose brings more to the table as a playmaker.
Meanwhile, an implicit part of justifying parting with Allen in the other two deals was that the Bucks had the similar Connaughton in waiting. That’s no longer the case after this trade. They’ll have to find another floor-spacing, hustle-friendly guard after losing both.
Acquiring Rose makes it worth their time. He’s comfortably the best offensive player in this package. The Knicks are moving him here to maximize their financial flexibility by breaking his contract into two smaller, more moveable ones.

The Bucks have grander ambitions. They’re acquiring Rose to get them back to a place they recently were: at the top of the National Basketball Association.
