Indiana Pacers Receive: G/F Cam Reddish, F/C Obi Toppin, G Immanuel Quickley
New York Knicks receive: C Myles Turner

With Mitchell Robinson hitting unrestricted free agency this summer, the New York Knicks will have a giant hole to fill in the middle of their defense. By trading for the Pacers’ Myles Turner, they could not only plug that hole but actually upgrade on both ends of the court as well.

Turner’s ability to stretch the floor on offense makes him a perfect next to RJ Barrett and Julius Randle should the Knicks desire to build around their two inconsistent young stars. Both players do their best work in the paint and having a defensive-minded center who can space out behind the arc should free up plenty of room for them to work in the lane.

On defense, Turner might not rack up as many highlight reel-worthy blocks as Mitchell Robinson, but he’s a much more cerebral, committed, and impactful defender. He’d provide the Knicks defense with a true anchor who can be trusted to stay out of foul trouble and play smart, positional defense instead of chasing after swats to add to the box score.

In return, the Pacers receive three young players with potential to add to their budding young core. Obi Toppin gives Indiana an athletic and versatile defender who could be a high-quality starter if he can develop a consistent jump shot or find a niche on offense.

Immanuel Quickley got off to a hot start as a rookie, but his inefficiency and failure to grow as a playmaker have plateaued his stock. Perhaps a new situation could revive his career arc.

Cam Reddish is a potential 3-and-D plus but struggles to find consistency and offer anything else on offense aside from spot-up shooting. He’s a smooth athlete with the grace and physical tools to be much more than just a sniper but has failed to put it all together — particularly as a finisher at the rim.

But if he can cash in on all of his potential, he’d be the perfect complementary piece on the wings alongside Haliburton, capable of knocking down open jumpers and creating as a secondary playmaker. On defense, he has the length and agility to effectively guard and shut down multiple positions.
