Charlotte Hornets Receive: C Steven Adams, F Ziare Williams, 2024 First-Round Pick (MEM)
Memphis Grizzlies Receive: F Miles Bridges
With this deal, the Charlotte Hornets set themselves up for both the present and the future.
They address their glaring need for a big man with the acquisition of Adams. He’ll make for a fine pick-and-roll partner alongside franchise player LaMelo Ball. He’ll also address the deficiency of rim protection and rebounding that plagued this Hornets team in 2021-22.
It’s possible that his impact could outweigh the loss of Bridges. That holds particularly true if the similar P.J. Washington can take a step forward and make up his production. Otherwise, they may look to replace Bridges’ production on the open market.
Meanwhile, they acquire a high-potential player in Williams in the process. He wasn’t a rotation regular for the contending Grizzlies in 2021-22, but that’s to be expected for a rookie. He should benefit from playing alongside Ball, and being in a lower-pressure environment.

Unless, of course, the Hornets want to create a high-pressure environment. If they’re looking to move Bridges in a bid to make short-term improvements, the Grizzlies may be able to offer them a more appealing package.
