Dallas Mavericks Receive: G D’Angelo Russell, G Malik Beasley
Minnesota Timberwolves Receive: G Jalen Brunson (sign-and-trade), G/F Tim Hardaway Jr., G/F Sterling Brown
In this scenario, Jalen Brunson decides that he wants to sign with the Minnesota Timberwolves in free agency. While it has been reported that the Dallas Mavericks will not help facilitate any sign-and-trade deals for Brunson, that could just be some posturing from their perspective.
There is no reason Dallas wouldn’t want to get something in return for Brunson should he opt to leave. In this scenario, they do just that as they get a player that can directly replace him in the lineup in D’Angelo Russell.
Looking to sweeten the deal a little more for themselves, the Mavericks also part ways with Tim Hardaway Jr., who appeared in only 42 games this season before undergoing surgery. His production slipped off from previous seasons, so Dallas sees a chance to move him for a player in a similar mold in Malik Beasly, who is five years younger.
To make the money work, Sterling Brown is also included as part of the package heading to Minnesota. This deal is made under the assumption that Brunson will be signing a deal worth at least $20 million.

When added with the $22.6 million that Hardaway and Brown are owed, it should work under the NBA’s rules to match the just under $47 that Russell and Beasley are set to make. If needed, Boban Marjanovic, Marquese Chriss or Trey Burke can be included in the deal as well heading from Dallas to Minnesota.
