Minnesota Timberwolves Receive: F Davis Bertans, F Reggie Bullock, F/C Maxi Kleber, 2022 First-Round Pick
This first trade proposal could be considered the salary dump option for the Dallas Mavericks. Things are going to get very expensive for them and that is before considering a potential new deal for Jalen Brunson.
The easiest way to alleviate that financial burden is finding a team willing to move one big contract for smaller ones. But, they need to be compensated, and that is exactly what occurs here with the Minnesota Timberwolves. This is also a potential outcome should Brunson sign elsewhere.
Dallas gets back D’Angelo Russell, who is in the final season of his contract. He can take over the role Brunson had this season, emerging as the starting guard alongside Luka Doncic. They are also moving off of some long-term money.
Davis Bertans is signed for three more seasons. Reggie Bullock is under contract for two more, while Maxi Kleber is on an expiring deal. The Mavericks send the Timberwolves their 2022 first-round pick as a sweetener for taking on the long-term money that Bertans and Bullock are owed. Dwight Powell can be swapped for Bullock if Minnesota preferred.

All three of those players can help lengthen the Timberwolves’ rotation as well as they look to take that next step in their development next season. If Dallas wants to slash more long-term salaries, they can replace Bullock and Kleber with Spencer Dinwiddie or Tim Hardaway Jr.
But, in that scenario, Minnesota would ask for a lot more draft compensation as they would be adding a ton of long-term salary to their books. The package mentioned above seems like a fair compromise from both teams’ perspectives.
