Utah Jazz Receive: G Bradley Beal, 2025 First-Round Pick (WAS)
Washington Wizards Receive: G Donovan Mitchell
Often when assessing a hypothetical trade, the first question that comes to mind is “why?”. In this case, the more pertinent question may be “why not?”.
A straight-up swap is unlikely to work for the Utah Jazz. Donovan Mitchell is three years younger than Bradley Beal. Furthermore, Beal is coming off a down year that saw him suffer an injury. At this point, Mitchell has a higher trade value.
For that reason, the Wizards are throwing a first-round pick into the mix. It might be enough to get the Jazz to budge, especially if Mitchell is angling to get out of town anyway.
This is not the trade NBA observers are expecting this summer. If either of these teams is trading their franchise player, most will expect them to trigger a long-term rebuild in the process. At the same time, the NBA is a wildly unpredictable place.
