Making the Case: Detroit Pistons
Getting a return for Jerami Grant as he enters the final year of his current contract is a beneficial move for the Detroit Pistons. The focus of the franchise to build around Cade Cunningham long-term and Grant just doesn’t fit his timeline.
Cunningham was selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, but he’s not the only core piece on the Pistons. Saddiq Bey has continued to emerge as a key contributor and he can present matchup problems for defenses at the four.
At 28-years-old, Duncan Robinson is a bit older than the core in Detroit but has plenty of good years left and four years of team control left. What acquiring him accomplishes is adding a sharpshooter to add spacing for Cunningham.
Despite a slow start this season, Robinson continues to be one of the biggest three-point threats in the league. He is a career 40.6% three-point shooter and was able to heat up a bit down the stretch.
