How This Deal Impacts Cleveland Cavaliers
The Cleveland Cavaliers are a team on the up and up. They have an excellent young core and could be contenders in the Eastern Conference sooner than later. In this offseason, one of the things they need to address is their lack of playmaking.
Beyond Darius Garland, there isn’t a player signed for next season that can create for himself or his teammates. Collin Sexton and Rajon Rondo are both entering free agency, so acquiring Kemba Walker would provide some much-needed depth in the backcourt.
Walker could thrive in a scaled-back role coming off the bench. He showed with the Knicks he can still knock down jumpers and set up his teammates. His defensive shortcomings would be easier to overcome in Cleveland, as they have an excellent defensive team.
His veteran leadership and presence would also be a boon for Cleveland, who could certainly use more of that on their young roster. This deal with the New York Knicks would be addressing a need by dipping into a position they have a surplus.
