Utah Jazz Receive: G/F Andrew Wiggins, F Jae’Sean Tate, F David Nwaba
Houston Rockets Receive: C James Wiseman
Golden State Warriors Receive: C Rudy Gobert
With this deal, the Utah Jazz land a group of proven NBA contributors in exchange for their 3x Defensive Player of the Year. Tate and Nwaba each address a longstanding absence of perimeter defenders.
They’ll likely need to find a Rudy Gobert replacement elsewhere. If they can make up, say, 70% of his production, they could be a better team in 2022-23.
Meanwhile, the Rockets make a play for upside in the infancy stages of their rebuild. They’re swapping the 26-year-old Tate and 29-yea-old Nwaba for the 21-year-old Wiseman. If Wiseman reaches his lofty potential, this will look like a steal for the Rockets in a few years.
Finally, the Golden State Warriors land Gobert. They won’t be interested in this kind of shakeup if they walk away with the 2021-22 championship. If they fall short, this deal could easily put them in the driver’s seat heading into next season.
