Miami Heat Receive: C Christian Wood
Houston Rockets Receive: G/F Duncan Robinson, 2026 First-Round Pick (MIA)
If the last deal was arguably too good to be true for the Houston Rockets, allow us to restore some balance in the universe.
Duncan Robinson’s annual salary of $16.9 million is a tad high. With his three-point shooting regressing in 2021-22, it’s starting to look egregious for the Miami Heat. Why would a rebuilding Rockets team take it on?
The answer is simple: draft capital. The odds of Wood fetching more than one first-round pick are slim. His defensive deficiencies have been on full display all season, and his maturity has come into question as well. He’s talented, but he’s not a can’t-miss acquisition, especially for the Heat.
Here, the Miami Heat gamble that their famed culture can put Wood on the right path. He’ll probably play the 4 alongside Bam Adebayo, where his defensive limitations should be less pronounced.

The Houston Rockets don’t need the 27-year-old Robinson. They could move him to a contender desperate for floor-spacing. They could even just push him to the back of the rotation. They make this move for the first-round pick from the Miami Heat. That’s an asset every rebuilding team aspires to collect.
