Meanwhile, the Indiana Pacers continue their rebuild by acquiring a first-round pick here. Richaun Holmes has pending legal troubles: he’s dead money. He’s here to make the trade work. For that matter, so is Bertans. The Pacers are flipping Hield and McConnell for an unprotected first-rounder in this deal.

The Dallas Mavericks, on the other hand, are in win-now mode. Barnes is a substantial upgrade over Bertans. He’s almost as consistent a floor-spacer, and he’s a significantly better shot creator and defender. This trade makes them a more dangerous team immediately.
If the Mavericks are willing to part with a first-round pick, this deal could benefit them along with the Indiana Pacers and Sacramento Kings.
