Sacramento Kings Receive: G Buddy Hield, G TJ McConnell
Indiana Pacers Receive: F Davis Bertans, C Richaun Holmes 2025 First-Round Pick (DAL)
Dallas Mavericks Receive: G Harrison Barnes
You may ask why the Sacramento Kings would reunite with Buddy Hield. We ask you this: why not?
It’s entirely possible that the Kings were never eager to part with Hield in the deal with the Indiana Pacers. He may have been a necessary casualty in matching contracts to bring Sabonis on board.
It’s hard to imagine why they wouldn’t want his career 39.8% three-point shooting alongside De’Aaron Fox and Sabonis. Additionally, they’re getting a great backup point guard from the Pacers in McConnell
Meanwhile, the Indiana Pacers continue their rebuild by acquiring a first-round pick here. Richaun Holmes has pending legal troubles: he’s dead money. He’s here to make the trade work. For that matter, so is Bertans. The Pacers are flipping Hield and McConnell for an unprotected first-rounder in this deal.

The Dallas Mavericks, on the other hand, are in win-now mode. Barnes is a substantial upgrade over Bertans. He’s almost as consistent a floor-spacer, and he’s a significantly better shot creator and defender. This trade makes them a more dangerous team immediately.
If the Mavericks are willing to part with a first-round pick, this deal could benefit them along with the Indiana Pacers and Sacramento Kings.
