Minnesota Timberwolves Receive: F Harrison Barnes
Sacramento Kings Receive: G Malik Beasley
With this deal, the Sacramento Kings shore up some of the guard depth they lost when they moved Tyrese Haliburton. Meanwhile, the Minnesota Timberwolves finally get a stretch four.
It’s a player type they’ve typically lacked. It seems as if the Timberwolves prioritize putting a defensive forward next to Karl-Anthony Towns, even at the expense of spacing. There’s logic in that. Towns is an elite shooting big, and a poor defender.
Still, imagine this group with five-out spacing. They’d probably challenge for the best Offensive Rating in the NBA. For his part, Barnes is a sound defender. With this trade, the Minnesota Timberwolves lean harder into their offensive identity without sacrificing too much on the other end.
Meanwhile, the Kings could use Beasley’s spacing. He’s a career 38.7% three-point shooter. His elite marksmanship would be especially beneficial in an offense built around Fox and Sabonis.

For all of the Timberwolves’ respective strengths, Minnesota is lacking in that department. Expect that to be a theme moving forward.
