San Antonio Spurs Receive: G Donovan Mitchell

Inevitably, a San Antonio Spurs fan or two will balk at this package. They’ll be forgiven for their attachment to Keldon Johnson.

After all, the 21-year-old wing shows great promise. He wrapped up 2021-22 with averages of 17.0 points on 6.1 rebounds per game. He shot 39.8% from three-point range. Johnson is already the consummate 3-and-D wing.

He’s also expendable if you’re getting Donovan Mitchell. Devin Vassell is cut from the same cloth, and a year younger to boot. The Spurs are still armed with a young 3-and-D wing after this deal.

They’ll also have Donovan Mitchell. If you hadn’t heard, he’s good. Saving on draft capital doesn’t hurt either. The Spurs could suddenly find themselves in a position to go trade for a third star.
