Any scenario that sees the Utah Jazz moving Mike Conley rests on assumptions. It assumes that the Jazz flamed out in the playoffs, and are opting (by choice or otherwise) to rebuild.
Donovan Mitchell’s enthusiasm about playing in Salt Lake City has come into question lately. The scrutiny will intensify if they don’t get past the Dallas Mavericks. In this scenario, he’s made a trade demand. The Jazz are effectively swapping their veteran point guard for Murphy III.
He’s no small loss for the team. Murphy III shot 38.2% from deep while providing solid defense in his 2021-22 rookie season as a Pelican.
Still, he’s expendable. Fellow rookie Herb Jones is a similar 3-and-D wing, and he enjoyed an even more successful maiden voyage.

The Jazz might be happy to land a long-term rotation piece at the expense of their aging floor general. At the same time, they may be apprehensive about taking on Nance Jr. and Graham in the early stages of a rebuild.
