Jayson Tatum
If Donovan Mitchell were to pair up with Tatum, it’s fair to say that by now, he’d be taking a 1A position. As talented as the dynamic scoring guard is, Tatum is beginning to look like a bonafide MVP candidate.
One aspect of Tatum’s game that’s really improved is his playmaking. In the first round of the 2021-22 playoffs, Tatum is averaging 29.5 points and 7.3 assists per game.
That’s remarkable. Those numbers qualify Tatum as a true point forward. Playing with a wing with that kind of court vision would greatly benefit Mitchell. He’s a solid passer in his own right, but he’s overburdened as a primary playmaker.
Teaming with Tatum would allow Mitchell to focus on scoring. Ultimately, that’s his calling card. Defenses would struggle to contain an attack led by the two young stars.

Such an attack is probably not in the cards. With the Celtics looking like true contenders, they won’t have the cap space to accommodate a Mitchell trade without parting with a key player. Still, it’s a fun pairing to imagine.
