Why The Golden State Warriors Should Pursue This Trade
If the Golden State Warriors add Rudy Gobert, finishing the 2022-23 season with the league’s best Defensive Rating shouldn’t be the benchmark. They should at least be in the running for the best Defensive Rating in league history.
After all, they’d be pairing two of the best defenders of their generation in Draymond Green and Rudy Gobert. Scoring on that duo should be practically impossible.
That frontcourt defense could allow the Warriors some leeway with lineup construction. They could move Klay Thompson to the 3 and insert Jordan Poole into the backcourt alongside Curry. Having Gobert and Green upfront should mitigate any concerns about a miniature guard rotation.
Alternatively, they could designate Poole as the sixth man and put another 3-and-D player in the starting lineup. They could retain Otto Porter Jr, or if he commands too hefty a price as a free agent, they could find a discount replacement. Either way, the flexibility this deal provides them should more than compensate for the departure of Wiggins.

If the Golden State Warriors are the last team standing when these playoffs are done, they probably won’t entertain a shakeup of this magnitude. If they aren’t, this deal could land them closer to that result next season.
