Utah Jazz Receive: G/F RJ Barrett, G Evan Fournier, 2022 First-Round Pick (NYK), 2024 First-Round Pick (NYK)
New York Knicks Receive: G Donovan Mitchell
This trade isn’t novel. A premature playoff exit should spell doom for the Utah Jazz’s current core. The New York Knicks would be in a prime position to take advantage if it did.
After all, rumors heavily suggest that Donovan Mitchell would prefer to play in a bigger market. It happens that he’s from a bigger market and that bigger market happens to be New York. It doesn’t take a genius to put those pieces together.
This deal makes sense for the Jazz as well. Historically, they’ve avoided massive teardowns. The addition of Barrett allows them to stay competitive.
Furthermore, they’re still receiving valuable draft capital in the form of two unprotected first-round picks.

This trade doesn’t offer either side any guarantees. The Knicks can’t be certain that a duo of Mitchell and Julius Randle will compete for anything serious. The Jazz may prefer a package that includes more draft picks, even at the expense of Barrett.
If Donovan Mitchell demands a trade, the New York Knicks should at least find out.
