Tyler Herro/Jimmy Butler

When rumors first began popping up that Mitchell could be on the move from the Utah Jazz, the Miami Heat were reportedly the team atop his wish list. Miami is always putting themselves in a position to swing a big trade and this season was no different.

While not much was made of their deadline deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder, it actually opened up another first-round pick for them to include in a deal. They are gearing up for a big trade and Mitchell could be their target.

Building a package from the Heat’s perspective has some challenges, but any deal they make will be centered around Tyler Herro, the likely Sixth Man of the Year award winner. He has had an excellent third season in the NBA, but some believe the Heat would move him in the right deal.

Bradley Beal was mentioned as a possible trade target, but Mitchell should qualify as well. If the Jazz isn’t as high on Herro, they could opt to remain as competitive as possible next season and see if the Heat would be willing to part with Jimmy Butler. Butler just signed a long-term extension, but there is reportedly some contention and players believe he could look to move on should the Heat not find success in the postseason.

Swapping two players looking for more postseason success is something that may work for both teams. If Miami is ultimately where Mitchell wants to be, Herro will assuredly be asked for with Butler possibly being used to match salary.
