How This Trade Impacts Houston Rockets
The Houston Rockets are in the early stages of a rebuild, so it could seem peculiar for them to be trading away a draft pick and bringing in someone with the contract that Kristaps Porzingis possesses. But, this is the kind of trade that they should be looking to make given the extra assets they have compiled.
They look set in the backcourt and on the wings with players such as Kevin Porter Jr., Jalen Green, Josh Christopher, Kenyon Martin Jr., and Jae’Sean Tate. But, they haven’t been as fortune finding frontcourt help, which this deal with the Wizards would provide.
Porzingis would make for a very intriguing frontcourt pairing alongside Christian Wood. If the Rockets received an offer for Wood that was too good to pass up, they would have Porzingis available to slide into their featured role in the frontcourt as a veteran presence to lean on.
Getting Rui Hachimura in the deal is what makes parting ways with the 2023 first-round pick acceptable. He has shown some promise during the first three seasons of his career, averaging 13 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.
LATEST NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Houston Rockets Still Believe They Could Trade John Wall
With a logjam in the frontcourt, landing in Houston would provide him a chance at consistent playing time and to continue building on the strides he made this past season, such as with his 3-point shooting.
Houston has been unable to find a taker for Wall since they first started shopping him. Being able to move on from him and get a trade package in return with legitimate value would be seen as a major victory for the organization.
