Utah Jazz Receive: C Steven Adams, G/F Dillon Brooks, F Ziaire Williams, 2022 First-Round Pick (UTA), 2024 First-Round Pick (MEM)
Memphis Grizzlies Receive: G Donovan Mitchell
It feels a bit dirty whenever a team trades another team its pick back. Aren’t the Jazz effectively trading their star player for, amongst other things, something they already own?
Well, no. Their 2022 first-round pick is something they used to own. They traded it in the past but surely would like it back if they’re forced to ship Donovan Mitchell and rebuild.
Whether Utah would bite on this package probably rests on their evaluation of Ziaire Williams. The recent 10th overall pick didn’t get an ideal opportunity to showcase his game in 2021-22.
He saw 21.7 minutes per night, and as a rookie on a contender, wasn’t a featured option when he was on the floor. He still offers intriguing upside as a potential two-way wing with good athletic qualities.

Otherwise, the Jazz get another unprotected first-round pick here. Considering that they’re shipping Donovan Mitchell to the team that owns it, it’s unlikely to convey in the lottery.
It’s still a valuable chip for a team light on draft capital. They could land a steal with it, or, something unpredictable could tank the Grizzlies’ season.
If that gamble is too bold for their tastes, here’s another arrangement that could land Donovan Mitchell on Beale Street.
