Who Would Be the Perfect Trade Target?
Collin Sexton is due for his rookie extension this summer, so any change of location for him would have to be facilitated through a sign-and-trade. The Cleveland Cavaliers and New York Knicks could look to the deal that sent Lonzo Ball to the Bulls last summer as a precedent.
The Cavaliers and Sexton do look headed for divorce. The Cavs enjoyed surprising success in 2021-22, and they did it mainly without Sexton. He was sidelined by injury for most of the season.
His absence allowed Darius Garland an opportunity to break out. The two guards play vastly different styles. Garland is more of a traditional floor general: he can set himself and others up. Sexton is a pure bucket, to the extent that his style presents as problematic for some.
Still, you can’t deny his talent. He’s a mere season removed from averaging a reasonably efficient 24.3 points per game. Collin Sexton is a born scorer.
